Wireless Antennae
A wireless antenna is a hardware device component or device that increases or enhances the range of wireless network. This device is used with APs. Wireless antennas are either Omni-directional or Directional.
Omni-directional antennae
An Omni-directional antenna is commonly used in small area and it provides 360 degrees coverage. This antenna is generally perfect for the area that are arrange in square or rectangular form. An Omni-directional antenna can be used both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint APs.
Directional Antennae
A Directional antenna provides network coverage in a particular direction. A Direction antenna is used in point-to-multipoint APs.
Wireless Adapter
A wireless adapter is a hardware device that provides connectivity to device (generally computer or PDAs) in wireless network. Some of the wireless adapters are PC cards, PCI and mini PCI, USB, and compact Flash.
Wireless adapter can be of three types:
- Wi-Fi
- Broadband cellular
- Bluetooth
Wi-Fi Adapter
A Wi-Fi adapter is typically used in laptops and desktops to provide connectivity to a wireless network.
Broadband Cellular Adapter
A broadband cellular adapter, also called broadband adepter or broadband card, works with laptops or PDAs and provides wireless mobility and functionality similar to a cell phone.
Bluetooth Adapter
A Bluetooth adapter is used when transmission is required for a short range such as between a mouse and a computer.
