A webcam is camera that is connected to a computer and the Internet, and it captures motion videos of a user or other objects. Nowadays, most laptops come with in-built webcams and they can be connected to a computer via USB or FireWire port.
The webcam was first invented in 1991 and was connected to the Internet in 1993. A webcam does not have any self-contained recording mechanisms. Its only purpose is to transfer the captured video to the host computer using Internet.
There may be wired or wireless NICs in a webcam for the connection to the Internet. Important Note: A webcam does not have any in-built storage. They are always required to be connected to a computer and use the computer’s hard drive as its storage.
