Vertical and horizontal cross connects
A cross connect refers to a location where cable elements are terminated. To connect these cable elements, you need to use jumpers or termination blocks. Also, cable that run from communication closet to wall outlet are called horizontal cross connect. On the other hand, cable that connects equipment rooms, telecommunication rooms, and other physical termination points are called vertical cables. These cables are connected to each other to complete the network cabling.
