Network Cable Types
A physical media or network cable provides data transmission between network devices. There are three types of network cables, which are used for data transmission in a network. These three types of network cables are as follows:
- Twisted-pair cable
- Coaxial cable
- Fiber optic cable
These cables are widely used in the backbone and horizontal cabling systems. The backbone cabling systems connects network equipment, such as servers, switches, and routers, to the network and the equipment room to the telecommunication room by using twisted-pair cable. On the other hand, the horizontal cabling systems connect telecommunication rooms to the wall outlets by using the fiber optic cable.
