Monitor

A monitor or display is the most common output device of the computer that provides a visual output. It is also called a visual display unit (VDU). It is not possible to do anything on a computer without a display such as a monitor. A monitor is composed of a circuitry, display screen, power supply, and buttons to adjust the settings and the casing. It receives signals from the graphic processing unit or GPU and displays it. Based on the technology used to make the monitors, they can be of three types:

  • CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)
  • LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
  • LED (Light-Emitting Diodes)
