Chipset

A chipset is a collection of a chip or circuits which are designed to function together as a unit, especially to perform a particular task within a computer system. The function of chipset can be divided into two part North Bridge & South Bridge.

Northbridge – it is main chip of mother board is the connection between the high speed processor bus and the slower AGP and PCI buses so their speed is very fast.

Southbridge- Southbridge is responsible for providing support to the on board slower peripheral and it also responsible for managing communication with the slower expansion buses, such as PCI and legacy buses. Most motherboard today has integrated PS/2 USB, LAN Analog and digital audio for the Southbridge to manage.
