Characteristics of a Network

A network is characterized by its architectural model, topology, and protocol. The architectural model defines the design of a network. Examples of architectural models are peer-to-peer and client/server. Topology is the physical layout of the network. Examples of typologies include bus, ring, star, and mesh. Protocols, as stated earlier, are a set of rules that governs data communication.
