Basis principle of computers

On the basis of working principle, Analog, digital and Hybrid computer.

There are three types of computers

  1. Analog computers
  2. Digital computers
  3. Hybrid computers

Analog Computers

Analog computers are used to process analog data. Analog data is of continuous nature and which is not discrete or separate. Such type of data includes temperature, pressure, speed weight, voltage, depth etc.

Characteristics of Analog Computers

  • Continuous values
  • Small memory
  • Slow speed
  • Not as reliable
  • Results are not accurate
  • Difficult to use

Digital Computer

A digital computer is a system that stores data in a discrete way. Larger amounts of data are stored as a string of these bits, which means a set of 0s and 1s together make a meaning to the system. The word digital is most commonly used in computing and electronics.

Characteristics of Digital computer

  • Discrete values
  • Large memory
  • Faster speed
  • Very reliable
  • Results are 100 percent accurate

Hybrid computers

Hybrid computers are a mix of analog and digital computers with the best features of each type. They have the speed of analog computers, as well as the accuracy and speed of digital computers. These computers are used in applications that process both continuous and discrete data.

Characteristics of Hybrid Computers

  • It is work on both analog and digital data
  • Speedy like analog
  • Accuracy like digital
  • It is mainly use in specialized application
  • Weather forecasting, Air defense, digital petrol pump
  • Eg; ATM ,Electronic cardiograph (ECG)
