 Bandwidth

In computer networks, the term bandwidth refers to the maximum frequency at which the data can be transmitted and received in a given time period. The bandwidth is represented in bps or bytes per second for digital devices while represented in Hz or cycles per second (cps) for analog devices. Usually, the data transfer rate would be high if the data bandwidth of a given path is high. The bandwidth is usually significant for input/output devices. For an instance, a bus having a low bandwidth can strangle a disk drive. For this reason, new buses, such as Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), have been designed for PCs.
